This year plankton-bloom phenomenon in the inner Gulf of Thailand was extremely severe. As the world warms up with more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, they get absorbed into the sea. In combination with the southwest monsoon wind in the rainy season from the southern sea blowing into the eastern sea, carrying waste sediments containing rich nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium from the rivers into the inner Gulf of Thailand, creating a perfect condition for algae to rapidly multiply, causing severe plankton bloom, which cause the seawater to go bad.
ปรากฏการณ์แพลงก์ตอนบลูมในปีนี้รุนแรงเป็นอย่างมาก เมื่อโลกร้อนขึ้นทำให้คาร์บอนไดออกไซด์ในอากาศที่มากขึ้นถูกดูดลงทะเล บวกกับลมมรสุมตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ในฤดูฝนจากทะเลภาคใต้เข้าสู่ทะเลภาคตะวันออกได้พัดพาตะกอนของเสียมาจากแม่น้ำลงสู่ทะเลอ่าวไทยตอนใน ได้พัดสารอาหารไนโตรเจน ฟอสฟอรัส และโปแทสเซียมเป็นจำนวนมากตามกระแสน้ำ ซึ่งเป็นปุ๋ยอย่างดี ทำให้สาหร่ายทะเลเจริญเติบโตอย่างรวดเร็วและเกิดแพลงก์ตอนบลูมเพิ่มขึ้นมากกว่าทุกปี จากนั้นไม่นานจะเริ่มตายทำให้น้ำเน่าเสีย
